# Posit Workbench: SQL injection lets logged-in users read database contents

Link for people: https://infrastack.ai/live/CVE-2026-121881 (this .md is for agents)

A SQL injection flaw in the get_last_seen session-state RPC of Posit Workbench lets an authenticated user pass crafted sessionIds values to the database. An attacker can read arbitrary data from the Workbench database, but cannot change it.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed Posit Workbench version (for example with `rstudio-server version` on the server) and compare it with `2026.08.0`.
- Confirm whether any users outside the admin team can log in to the server.

## Fix

- Posit Workbench: move to `2026.08.0` or later.

## Timeline

- 2026-11-06T16:42:41+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-121881

## From the sources

SQL injection vulnerability in the get_last_seen code-server session-state RPC in Posit Software, PBC Posit Workbench before 2026.08.0 allows authenticated users to read arbitrary data from the Workbench database via the sessionIds parameter.

NOTE: exploitation requires a valid authenticated session; no administrative privileges are needed. The vulnerability is limited to disclosure of database contents.
