# nnn file manager: crafted filenames run commands in togglex plugin

The nnn terminal file manager's togglex plugin passes filenames into a shell script without escaping them. A file whose name contains a double quote and shell syntax can make the plugin run commands as the user who invoked it.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed version with `nnn -V`; versions through `5.3` are listed as affected.
- Check whether the togglex plugin is installed under the nnn plugins directory.

## Fix

- Move to a version newer than `5.3`, per the linked patch (version number not stated in the sources).

## From the sources

Jarun nnn through 5.3 contains an OS command injection vulnerability in plugins/togglex that allows attackers to execute commands via crafted filenames. Attackers can place files whose names contain a double quote and shell syntax, which xargs -I splices into an sh -c script, running commands as the user invoking togglex.
