# FreeRDP: malicious RDP server crashes xfreerdp client via ResetGraphics

FreeRDP before 3.32.2 has a NULL pointer dereference that lets a malicious RDP server crash the xfreerdp client. A zero-width RDPGFX ResetGraphics message leaves the display null, and a later bitmap update crashes the client.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the FreeRDP version with `xfreerdp --version`
- Look for FreeRDP builds older than `3.32.2` in your packages or bundled binaries

## Fix

- FreeRDP: upgrade to `3.32.2` or later

## Timeline

## From the sources

FreeRDP before 3.32.2 contains a NULL pointer dereference vulnerability that allows malicious RDP servers to crash xfreerdp clients by sending a zero-width RDPGFX ResetGraphics PDU. The failed resize in gdi_resize_ex leaves the primary display null without ending the session, so a later bitmap update crashes the client in gdi_Bitmap_Paint.
