# Chrome: use-after-free in Passwords lets a web page run code

A memory bug in the Passwords component of Google Chrome, before version 157.0.8103.38, lets a crafted HTML page trigger a use-after-free. Per the description, an attacker could potentially execute arbitrary code outside the browser sandbox.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed Chrome version in Chrome's About page (Settings > About Chrome) or with the platform's version query.
- Compare the result against `157.0.8103.38`; anything older is in the stated range.

## Fix

- Google Chrome: move to `157.0.8103.38` or later.

## Timeline

## From the sources

Use after free in Passwords in Google Chrome prior to 157.0.8103.38 allowed a remote attacker to potentially execute arbitrary code outside the sandbox via a crafted HTML page. (Chromium security severity: High)
