# Chrome: DevTools reference flaw lets a crafted page escape the sandbox

Google Chrome's DevTools mishandles a reference, so a crafted HTML page can potentially run code outside the browser sandbox. Exploitation needs a remote attacker to use social engineering to get the victim to open the page.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed Chrome version in the browser's About page or with `chrome://version`; versions below `157.0.8103.38` are listed as affected.

## Fix

- Google Chrome: move to `157.0.8103.38` or later.

## Timeline

- 2026-11-03T21:19:26+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-121200

## From the sources

Incorrect reference resolution in DevTools in Google Chrome prior to 157.0.8103.38 allowed a remote attacker leveraging social engineering to potentially execute arbitrary code outside the sandbox via a crafted HTML page. (Chromium security severity: Medium)
