# Chrome: out-of-bounds read in Permissions lets a compromised renderer escape

A flaw in the Permissions component of Google Chrome lets code that has already compromised the renderer process read memory out of bounds. An attacker who gets there via a crafted HTML page could potentially run code outside the browser sandbox.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the Chrome version in the browser's About page or with `chrome://version`; affected builds are prior to `157.0.8103.38`.
- Check managed fleets for the Chrome version reported by the endpoint management tool.

## Fix

- Google Chrome: move to `157.0.8103.38` or later.

## Timeline

## From the sources

Out of bounds read in Permissions in Google Chrome prior to 157.0.8103.38 allowed a remote attacker who had compromised the renderer process to potentially execute arbitrary code outside the sandbox via a crafted HTML page. (Chromium security severity: High)
