# Chrome: compromised renderer can bypass system access restrictions via crafted page

Google Chrome versions before 157.0.8103.38 have an incorrect authorization flaw in Core. A remote attacker who has already compromised the renderer process can bypass system access restrictions by serving a crafted HTML page.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the Chrome version in the browser's About page or run `google-chrome --version` on Linux
- Compare the installed version against `157.0.8103.38`

## Fix

- Google Chrome: update to `157.0.8103.38` or later

## Timeline

- 2026-11-03T21:19:09+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-121040

## From the sources

Incorrect authorization in Core in Google Chrome prior to 157.0.8103.38 allowed a remote attacker who had compromised the renderer process to bypass system access restrictions via a crafted HTML page. (Chromium security severity: Medium)
