# ERPNext OCR app: authenticated users can read arbitrary server files

Link for people: https://infrastack.ai/live/CVE-2026-119758 (this .md is for agents)

The ERPNext OCR app for Frappe lets any logged-in user pass a client-controlled path to its whitelisted read_document method. An attacker can read arbitrary server files, including other users' private uploads, or make the server fetch internal URLs such as cloud metadata endpoints.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## Affected

- frappe:erpnext_ocr affected <= 1.1.1 fixed no fixed version listed

## How to check

- Run `bench --site <site> list-apps` (or `bench list-apps`) and look for erpnext_ocr.
- Check the version with `bench version` (lists app versions); 1.1.1 or earlier is affected.
- Until a fix is published (none stated by the advisory), uninstall the app with `bench --site <site> uninstall-app erpnext_ocr` or restrict accounts, and review access logs for calls to the read_document method. Also check cloud metadata access (IMDS) from the server.

## From the sources

ERPNext OCR app for Frappe/ERPNext through 1.1.1 contains a missing authorization and path traversal vulnerability that allows any authenticated user to read arbitrary server files by passing a fully client-controlled path argument to the whitelisted read_document method. Attackers can supply local file paths to bypass Frappe's File doctype permission model and access other users' private uploads, or supply arbitrary URLs to trigger server-side requests reaching internal services and cloud metadata endpoints.
