# ImageMagick: crafted TIFF image crashes the app via stack overflow

ImageMagick before 7.1.2-34 has a stack overflow in its TIFF decoder when the DNG decoder is disabled. An attacker who supplies a crafted image can crash the application, causing denial of service.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Run `magick -version` and compare the version to `7.1.2-34`
- Check whether the DNG decoder is disabled in the ImageMagick policy or build configuration (unknown if the sources do not say how)

## Fix

- ImageMagick: move to `7.1.2-34` or later

## Timeline

- 2026-10-29T16:25:58+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-119123

## From the sources

ImageMagick before 7.1.2-34 contains a stack overflow vulnerability in the TIFF decoder that occurs when the DNG decoder is disabled. Attackers can supply a crafted image file for processing to trigger the stack overflow and crash the application, causing denial of service.
