# Chrome: use-after-free in Paint lets a crafted page run code

A use-after-free bug in the Paint component of Google Chrome before 156.0.8078.73 lets a remote attacker run arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox when the victim opens a crafted HTML page. The sources rate it High in Chromium's severity scale and do not say whether a sandbox escape exists.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Open chrome://version in Chrome and read the version number
- Run `google-chrome --version` on Linux, or check the Chrome version in the installed app on macOS or Windows
- Check managed fleets for Chrome builds below `156.0.8078.73`

## Fix

- Update Google Chrome to `156.0.8078.73` or later
- Restart the browser after the update so the new build is running
- Update Chromium-based browsers (Edge, Brave, Opera) when their vendors ship a build with the Chromium fix
