# Chrome: use-after-free in compositing lets a crafted page run code

Google Chrome before 156.0.8078.73 has a use-after-free bug in its Compositing component. A remote attacker who lures a user to a crafted HTML page can potentially execute arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed Chrome version in the browser's About page or with `google-chrome --version` (unknown for managed or other platforms)
- Confirm whether any managed fleet reports Chrome below `156.0.8078.73`

## Fix

- Update Google Chrome to `156.0.8078.73` or later
- Restart the browser after the update so the fixed version is running

## From the sources

Use after free in Compositing in Google Chrome prior to 156.0.8078.73 allowed a remote attacker to potentially execute arbitrary code inside the sandbox via a crafted HTML page. (Chromium security severity: High)
