# Google Chrome: use-after-free in Layout runs code via crafted page

A use-after-free bug in the Layout component of Google Chrome before 156.0.8078.73 lets a remote attacker run code inside the browser sandbox. The attacker only needs to lure a user to a crafted HTML page.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Open Chrome, go to `chrome://settings/help` and read the installed version
- On managed machines, run `google-chrome --version` (Linux) and check it is at least `156.0.8078.73`

## Fix

- Update Google Chrome to `156.0.8078.73` or later
- Relaunch the browser after the update so the new version is running

## From the sources

Use after free in Layout in Google Chrome prior to 156.0.8078.73 allowed a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code inside the sandbox via a crafted HTML page. (Chromium security severity: Critical)
