# Chrome V8: crafted HTML page can run code outside the sandbox

Improper input validation in the V8 JavaScript engine in Google Chrome before 156.0.8078.73 lets a remote attacker run arbitrary code outside the browser sandbox. The attack is delivered through a crafted HTML page that a user visits.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Open Chrome and check the version under Settings > About Chrome, or run `google-chrome --version` on Linux
- Check managed fleets for Chrome builds older than `156.0.8078.73`

## Fix

- Update Google Chrome to `156.0.8078.73` or later
- Relaunch the browser after the update so the new version is running

## Timeline

## From the sources

Improper input validation in V8 in Google Chrome prior to 156.0.8078.73 allowed a remote attacker to potentially execute arbitrary code outside the sandbox via a crafted HTML page. (Chromium security severity: High)
