# WordPress Bulk Media Register: Author users can move arbitrary server files

The Bulk Media Register WordPress plugin before 2.01 does not validate a user-supplied path before moving a file on the server. An authenticated user with the Author role can move or rename arbitrary files, including outside the WordPress root, which can expose protected files.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed version of the Bulk Media Register plugin in the WordPress admin under Plugins; versions before `2.01` are affected.
- Review which accounts hold the Author role, since those are the accounts that can trigger it.

## Fix

- Update the Bulk Media Register plugin to `2.01` or later.

## Timeline

- 2026-10-31T06:33:50+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-118043

## From the sources

The Bulk Media Register WordPress plugin before 2.01 does not properly validate a user-supplied path before moving a file on the server, allowing users with the Author role to move or rename arbitrary files, including outside the WordPress root, which can defeat directory-level access controls and disclose protected files.
