# Firefox: JavaScript JIT invalid pointer flaw may allow code execution

A bad pointer in the JIT component of Firefox's JavaScript engine was fixed in Firefox 159 and Firefox ESR 153.6. The sources do not state what an attacker gains, but invalid pointers in JIT code commonly lead to memory corruption.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed Firefox version with `firefox --version` or Help > About Firefox
- Check ESR installs with `firefox --version` against the ESR line
- unknown for any other check, the sources do not say

## Fix

- Update Firefox to `159` or later
- Update Firefox ESR to `153.6` or later

## Timeline
