# Jenkins: breadcrumb tooltip text lets readers run stored cross-site scripting

Jenkins 2.587 and earlier, and LTS 2.580.1 and earlier, do not escape text shown in breadcrumb bar overflow menu tooltips. An attacker with Overall/Read permission can store script that runs in other users' browsers.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Run `jenkins-cli version` or open the Jenkins footer to read the running version
- Compare the running version against `2.587` (weekly) and `2.580.1` (LTS)

## Fix

- Upgrade Jenkins weekly to a release later than `2.587`
- Upgrade Jenkins LTS to a release later than `2.580.1`
- Check the Jenkins security advisory for the exact fixed version (unknown in the sources)

## Timeline

- 2026-10-28T17:34:09+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-117623

## From the sources

Jenkins 2.587 and earlier, LTS 2.580.1 and earlier does not escape the text shown in the tooltips of breadcrumb bar overflow menu entries, resulting in a stored cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability exploitable by attackers with Overall/Read permission.
