# REDAXO: backup addon exports any table, exposing admin sessions and password hashes

The REDAXO backup addon lets users with the backup[export] permission export any database table, including rex_user and rex_user_session. An attacker with that permission can read plaintext session IDs to take over admin accounts, or password hashes to crack offline.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed REDAXO version in the project (`redaxo/src/core/boot.php` or the version shown in the backend) and confirm whether it is below `5.21.5`.
- Check whether the backup addon is installed and which roles hold the `backup[export]` permission in the backend user/role settings.

## Fix

- Upgrade REDAXO to `5.21.5` or later.
- Until upgraded, remove the `backup[export]` permission from non-admin roles.

## Timeline

- 2026-10-27T11:31:27+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-116896

## From the sources

REDAXO before 5.21.5 contains a missing authorization vulnerability in the backup addon export that accepts any database table, allowing non-admin users with the backup[export] permission to export rex_user, rex_user_session, and other applications' tables. Attackers can obtain plaintext session ids and stay-logged-in keys to take over admin accounts, or password hashes for offline cracking.
