# OpenPanel: non-admin members can create projects and write-type ingestion credentials

OpenPanel before 3.0.0 lets any organization member call the onboarding.project tRPC mutation, which is meant to be admin-only. The call creates projects and returns plaintext write-type ingestion secrets, so a member can inject fake analytics events and use the organization's usage budget.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the OpenPanel version in the deployment, for example in `package.json` or the image tag; versions below `3.0.0` are affected
- Review which accounts are organization members rather than admins, and whether any non-admin session can reach the onboarding.project endpoint

## Fix

- Upgrade OpenPanel to `3.0.0` or later
- Rotate any ingestion credentials created through onboarding.project by non-admin members, and delete projects they did not expect

## Timeline

- 2026-10-27T00:25:55+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-116806

## From the sources

OpenPanel before 3.0.0 contains a missing authorization vulnerability in the onboarding.project tRPC mutation that allows non-admin organization members to create projects and mint write-type ingestion credentials, bypassing the admin-only policy. Attackers can repeatedly call the endpoint with a member session to obtain plaintext secrets, inject fake analytics events, poison business metrics, and consume the organization's usage budget.
