# Parse Server: SMS MFA login request saves fields with master privileges

Parse Server saves the whole login request with master-key privileges when it issues an SMS multi-factor verification code. A user enrolled in SMS MFA can add extra fields to that request and change restricted fields on their own account, such as the email-verified flag.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed `parse` or `parse-server` version in `package.json` or the lockfile and compare it with the fixed versions.
- Confirm whether SMS MFA is enabled for your users in the Parse Server auth configuration.

## Fix

- Upgrade `parse-server` 8.x to `8.6.104` or later.
- Upgrade `parse-server` 9.x to `9.10.5-alpha.5` or later; 9.0.0 is not fixed.

## Timeline

- 2026-10-25T14:41:22+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-116162

## From the sources

Parse Server before 8.6.104 and 9.0.0 before 9.10.5-alpha.5 saves the entire login request with master privileges when issuing an SMS multi-factor authentication verification code. An SMS MFA-enrolled user can include extra fields in that request to modify master-key-restricted fields on their own account, such as the email-verification flag or beforeSave-protected values.
