# WordPress VikRentCar plugin: unauthenticated stored XSS through poplink parameter

The VikRentCar car rental plugin for WordPress fails to sanitize the poplink parameter, so injected script is stored and runs in pages viewed by other users. An unauthenticated attacker can obtain the required nonce from the public booking-confirmation page and inject the script without an account.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check whether the VikRentCar Car Rental Management System plugin is installed and its version in the WordPress admin Plugins screen, or in `wp-content/plugins/`
- Look for the plugin's version header in its main PHP file

## Fix

- Update the VikRentCar plugin to a version later than `1.4.9`; the sources do not name the fixed version

## Timeline

## From the sources

The VikRentCar Car Rental Management System plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'poplink' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 1.4.9 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. The handler requires only a WordPress nonce (vikwp_nonce), which the plugin itself emits to unauthenticated visitors on the public booking-confirmation page, allowing an attacker to obtain a valid token without any account.
