# P-Net: missing bounds check in DCP requests lets attackers crash devices

P-Net, an industrial Profinet device stack, reads block headers past the end of the receive buffer in DCP Set and Identify requests. An attacker on the adjacent network can crash the device or read a small amount of its memory.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Identify the P-Net version in the device firmware or the library you build with, and check whether it is older than `1.0.3`.
- Confirm whether the device exposes Profinet DCP on the network segment.

## Fix

- P-Net `1.0.3`

## Timeline

- 2026-10-29T16:25:56+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-115795

## From the sources

P-Net before 1.0.3 does not check that a complete block header is present in the received data before reading the next block in DCP Set and Identify requests. If the last block ends at the end of the receive buffer, the block length of the following block is read past the end of the buffer. In addition, a DCP Set block with a length smaller than the two-byte block qualifier makes the length underflow, so the block is processed with a length of 65534 bytes. This can cause a crash (denial of service) or disclose a small amount of memory content. Requires ADJACENT network access.
