# EPICS Base: integer overflow in protocol parsing enables out-of-bounds memory write

EPICS Base release 7.0.10 and earlier does not validate message length values during protocol parsing, which can cause an integer overflow. The result is an out-of-bounds memory write that can crash the process or cause denial of service.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed EPICS Base version against `7.0.10`; the sources do not name a fixed build beyond that.
- unknown for other checks: the sources do not say which protocol path or configuration is reachable.

## Fix

- Move EPICS Base to a release newer than `7.0.10`; the sources do not name the exact fixed version.

## Timeline

- 2026-10-27T17:32:45+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-114596

## From the sources

In EPICS Base release 7.0.10 and prior, an improper validation of message length values during protocol parsing can trigger an integer overflow, resulting in an out-of-bounds memory write. Successful exploitation can cause process instability or denial of service.
