# DJI CrystalSky: hidden USB command lets a local attacker run root commands

The root-privileged 'assistant' daemon on DJI CrystalSky ZS600C tablets contains an undocumented backdoor. A person with physical USB access who sends a hard-coded magic string over the USB serial port gets every following line run as a root shell command.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## Affected

- vendor:CrystalSky ZS600C firmware affected >= 0.3.9.7, <= 0.6.6.9 fixed ?

## How to check

- Settings > About on the ZS600C: firmware v0.3.9.7 through v0.6.6.9 is affected, and every release is, since v0.6.6.9 is the last.
- Via adb or a shell, check whether the assistant daemon runs as root (ps -A | grep assistant) and whether /dev/ttyGS0 exists.

## Fix

No fix: v0.6.6.9 is the last release and the device is EOL/unsupported (per finder). No DJI advisory found. Mitigate by controlling physical and USB access, or retire the device.

## Timeline

- 2026-10-23T21:57:34+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-114353
- 2026-10-25T03:37:59+00:00 analyst — Finder write-up (Cyber-Defence Campus) read: affected v0.3.9.7-0.6.6.9, which is the last release; device EOL so no vendor fix or DJI advisory found. Not exploited per OffSeq/NVD; no public PoC beyond the magic string.

## Documents

- [advisory] assistant daemon hard-coded USB backdoor (Cyber-Defence Campus) https://cyber-defence-campus.github.io/projects/vulnerabilities/CVE-2026-114353/

## From the sources

Hidden functionality (undocumented backdoor) in the root-privileged 'assistant' daemon in DJI CrystalSky ZS600C firmware v0.3.9.7 through v0.6.6.9 on Android allows a physically-present attacker with USB access to execute arbitrary OS commands as root by sending the hard-coded magic string 'dji26656677' to the USB-gadget serial interface (/dev/ttyGS0), after which each subsequent line is passed to system().
