# Insurance-Management-System: SQL injection in policy holder editor lets attackers read database

The Insurance-Management-System project has an SQL injection flaw in its EditPolicyHolder.php page, where the Policy_no and Name arguments are passed into a mysqli query unsanitized. A remote attacker can use it to read or alter the application's database, and a public exploit has been released.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check whether the repository at `/Agent/ManagePolicy/EditPolicyHolder.php` exists in your deployment
- Confirm the code passes Policy_no or Name directly into `mysqli_query` without prepared statements (unknown if the sources give a fixed version)

## Fix

- unknown: the project has not responded and the sources give no patched release
- Replace the raw `mysqli_query` calls with prepared statements (`mysqli_prepare` and bound parameters) for Policy_no and Name
- Restrict access to the agent pages until a fix is in place

## From the sources

A security flaw has been discovered in dhikshitha29 Insurance-Management-System 91de5edda5baa109ad8e9baf03ce6a3ceda84183/125362cc21dca20d74091a4913a5096bb58dd837. Affected by this vulnerability is the function mysqli_query of the file /Agent/ManagePolicy/EditPolicyHolder.php. Performing a manipulation of the argument Policy_no/Name results in sql injection. The attack is possible to be carried out remotely. The exploit has been released to the public and may be used for attacks. This product adopts a rolling release strategy to maintain continuous delivery. Therefore, version details for affected or updated releases cannot be specified. The project was informed of the problem early through an issue report but has not responded yet.
