# Go storage archive layer code leaks file descriptors on malicious input

The storage/pkg/archive ApplyLayer and ApplyUncompressedLayer functions can leak a file descriptor when handling corrupt or malicious layer archives. Repeated calls can exhaust the process's file descriptor limit, causing denial of service.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## From the sources

storage/pkg/archive.ApplyLayer and ApplyUncompressedLayer may, when processing corrupt or malicious inputs, leak a file descriptor; unbounded repeated calls can exhaust the process’ file descriptor
limit
