# Trigger.dev: default Docker secrets let anyone log in as any user

Self-hosted Trigger.dev Docker Compose installs using the default secrets from hosting/docker/.env.example have a hardcoded MAGIC_LINK_SECRET, so anyone can forge login tokens for any email address. From there an attacker can reach Postgres, Redis and ClickHouse with default credentials and read all tenant data.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

Check hosting/docker/.env for MAGIC_LINK_SECRET and compare it to the value in hosting/docker/.env.example.

## Fix

Upgrade Trigger.dev to 4.5.6 or later and replace all default secrets and database credentials.

## Timeline

- 2026-10-24T13:15:55+00:00 epss https://api.first.org/data/v1/epss?cve=CVE-2026-114087

## From the sources

Trigger.dev before 4.5.6 self-hosted Docker Compose deployments using the default secrets from hosting/docker/.env.example allow authentication bypass because the hardcoded MAGIC_LINK_SECRET lets anyone forge valid magic link tokens. Unauthenticated attackers can log in as any email address, then reach Postgres, Redis, and ClickHouse with default credentials from runner containers on infrastructure networks, compromising all tenant data.
