# Trigger.dev: read-only user tokens can create production alert webhooks

Trigger.dev versions before 4.5.12 let holders of a read-only user-actor token create alert channels through the legacy personal access token helper. An attacker can route future deployment and error alerts to infrastructure they control.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the Trigger.dev version in use and see whether it is below `4.5.12`
- Review project alert channels for webhook targets you do not recognise
- Check whether any user-actor tokens with read-only scope exist

## Fix

- Upgrade Trigger.dev to `4.5.12` or later
- Delete any alert channels you do not recognise and rotate tokens that may have been exposed

## Timeline

## From the sources

Trigger.dev before 4.5.12 contains an authorization bypass vulnerability that allows holders of capability-restricted user-actor tokens to create alert channels by using the legacy personal access token helper. Attackers with a read-only UAT can POST to the project alertChannels endpoint to create production webhook channels, routing future deployment and error alerts to attacker-controlled infrastructure.
