# SmileCDR HAPI FHIR: REST-hook subscriptions let users read restricted resources

On a SmileCDR HAPI FHIR server with REST-hook subscriptions enabled, a user granted permission to create subscriptions can query resources they are not otherwise allowed to access. The attacker gets read access to FHIR data outside their normal permissions.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check whether REST-hook subscriptions are enabled in the SmileCDR or HAPI FHIR server configuration.
- List which users or roles hold subscription-creation permissions.
- Version of the affected SmileCDR release: unknown

## Fix

- unknown: the sources do not name a fixed version or vendor patch.
- Until a patch is confirmed, restrict subscription-creation permissions to trusted roles or disable REST-hook subscriptions.

## From the sources

On a SmileCDR HAPI FHIR server with REST-hook subscriptions enabled, if a user is granted subscription-creation permissions, they may be able to query and read resources that they are not otherwise permitted to access.
