# WordPress Media Library Assistant: forged request empties media trash

The Media Library Assistant plugin for WordPress before 3.42 skips a CSRF nonce check on its Empty Trash media action. A forged cross-site request can make a logged-in Editor or higher permanently delete every trashed attachment on the site.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed plugin version in the WordPress admin under Plugins, or with `wp plugin get media-library-assistant --field=version`
- Confirm the version is below `3.42`

## Fix

- Update the Media Library Assistant plugin to `3.42` or later
- Restore trashed attachments from backup if they were deleted without intent

## Timeline

- 2026-10-28T06:31:27+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-113486

## From the sources

The Media Library Assistant WordPress plugin before 3.42 does not verify a CSRF nonce on its Empty Trash media action, so a forged cross-site request can cause a logged-in user with the Editor role or above to permanently delete every trashed attachment on the site.
