# DrayTek Vigor2960 router: path traversal in mainfunction.cgi Apmupload

DrayTek Vigor2960 firmware 1.5.1.6 Revision 8218 has a path traversal flaw in the Apmupload component of /cgi-bin/mainfunction.cgi, reachable through the action argument. A remote attacker can use it to reach files outside the intended directory on the router, and the exploit has been published.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the firmware version in the router admin interface or with `show version` over the console; affected build is `1.5.1.6 Revision 8218`.
- Check whether the web management interface is reachable from the internet on the Vigor2960.

## Fix

- Upgrade the Vigor2960 firmware to `1.5.1.7` or later, as the advisory says, though the vendor notes the device is end of sale with limited support.
- If upgrading is not possible, restrict access to the router's web management interface to trusted networks only.

## From the sources

A vulnerability was found in DrayTek Vigor2960 1.5.1.6 Revision 8218. This vulnerability affects unknown code of the file /cgi-bin/mainfunction.cgi of the component Apmupload. Performing a manipulation of the argument action results in path traversal. The attack is possible to be carried out remotely. The exploit has been made public and could be used. Upgrading to version 1.5.1.7 is able to resolve this issue. Upgrading the affected component is advised. The vendor explains: "2960 1.5.1.7 has corrected many security issues. And 2960 is EoS with limited support, only major issues would be reviewed(e.g. unauthenticated vuln.)". This vulnerability only affects products that are no longer supported by the maintainer.
