# Chrome: WebSockets use-after-free lets a web page run code in sandbox

A use-after-free bug in Chrome's WebSockets code lets a remote attacker run arbitrary code inside the browser sandbox when the victim opens a crafted HTML page. The attacker gets code execution in the renderer sandbox, not full system access on its own.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## Affected

- vendor:google chrome affected < 156.0.8078.47 fixed 156.0.8078.47

## How to check

Run chrome://version in Chrome and compare the version with 156.0.8078.47.
On managed machines, check the installed Chrome version with your MDM or endpoint tool.

## Fix

Update Google Chrome to 156.0.8078.47 or later.
Relaunch the browser after the update so the new version is running.

## Timeline

- 2026-10-23T21:57:23+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-113037

## From the sources

Use after free in WebSockets in Google Chrome prior to 156.0.8078.47 allowed a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code inside the sandbox via a crafted HTML page. (Chromium security severity: Medium)
