# Apple macOS: crafted file causes heap corruption, out-of-bounds write

An out-of-bounds write in an unspecified macOS component is triggered when the system processes a maliciously crafted file, causing heap memory corruption. The sources do not say what an attacker can achieve beyond memory corruption, so code execution is not confirmed.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Run `sw_vers -productVersion` and compare against the fixed versions listed below
- unknown whether the sources name a specific component or file type

## Fix

- Update macOS Golden Gate to `27.2` or later
- Update macOS Sequoia to `15.8.2` or later
- Update macOS Tahoe to `26.7.2` or later

## Timeline

- 2026-10-26T21:20:29+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-112670

## From the sources

An out-of-bounds write issue was addressed with improved input validation. This issue is fixed in macOS Golden Gate 27.2, macOS Sequoia 15.8.2, macOS Tahoe 26.7.2. Processing a maliciously crafted file may lead to heap corruption.
