# Apple OS: info disclosure lets an app read kernel memory layout

Apple fixed an information disclosure bug in its operating systems that lets an app determine the kernel memory layout. Knowing the layout helps an attacker build a later kernel exploit, but the sources do not describe a direct takeover.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed version on iPhone or iPad under Settings > General > About, or on Mac with `sw_vers -productVersion`
- Compare the result against the fixed versions listed in the fix field
- Check the iOS and iPadOS 26.x and 27.x branches separately, since the fixed builds differ by branch

## Fix

- Update iOS and iPadOS to `26.7.2` or `27.2`
- Update macOS Tahoe to `26.7.2` or macOS Golden Gate to `27.2`
- Update tvOS, visionOS and watchOS to `27.2`

## Timeline

## From the sources

An information disclosure issue was addressed with improved state management. This issue is fixed in iOS 26.7.2 and iPadOS 26.7.2, iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2, macOS Golden Gate 27.2, macOS Tahoe 26.7.2, tvOS 27.2, visionOS 27.2, watchOS 27.2. An app may be able to determine kernel memory layout.
