# Apple: out-of-bounds write in image processing crashes apps

A malicious image can trigger an out-of-bounds write in Apple's image handling, causing the app processing it to terminate unexpectedly. The description reports only app termination (a crash), not code execution or data access.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the OS version on iPhone, iPad or Mac under Settings > General > About (or `sw_vers -productVersion` on macOS) and compare with the fixed versions below.

## Fix

- Update iOS and iPadOS to `26.7.2` or `27.2`.
- Update macOS Tahoe to `26.7.2`, macOS Sequoia to `15.8.2`, or macOS Golden Gate to `27.2`.

## Timeline

## From the sources

An out-of-bounds write issue was addressed with improved bounds checking. This issue is fixed in iOS 26.7.2 and iPadOS 26.7.2, iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2, macOS Golden Gate 27.2, macOS Sequoia 15.8.2, macOS Tahoe 26.7.2. Processing a maliciously crafted image may lead to unexpected app termination.
