# Apple iOS and macOS: crafted image crashes app via out-of-bounds read

An out-of-bounds read in Apple's image handling lets a maliciously crafted image terminate the app that processes it. The sources describe only an app crash, with no code execution or data disclosure stated.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the OS version under Settings > General > About (iOS/iPadOS) or Apple menu > About This Mac (macOS), and compare with the fixed versions listed in the description.

## Fix

- Update iOS and iPadOS to `26.7.2` or `27.2`.
- Update macOS Tahoe to `26.7.2`, macOS Sequoia to `15.8.2`, or macOS Golden Gate to `27.2`.
- Update visionOS to `27.2`.

## Timeline

## From the sources

An out-of-bounds read was addressed with improved bounds checking. This issue is fixed in iOS 26.7.2 and iPadOS 26.7.2, iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2, macOS Golden Gate 27.2, macOS Sequoia 15.8.2, macOS Tahoe 26.7.2, visionOS 27.2. Processing a maliciously crafted image may lead to unexpected app termination.
