# Apple iOS and macOS: crafted image leaks process memory via out-of-bounds read

An out-of-bounds read in Apple's image processing lets a maliciously crafted image disclose process memory. Fixed in iOS 26.7.2, iPadOS 26.7.2, iOS 27.2, iPadOS 27.2, macOS Golden Gate 27.2, macOS Sequoia 15.8.2, macOS Tahoe 26.7.2 and visionOS 27.2.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the device OS version in Settings > General > About (iOS, iPadOS, visionOS) or run `sw_vers` on macOS
- unknown which component is affected beyond image processing

## Fix

- Update iOS and iPadOS to `26.7.2` or `27.2`
- Update macOS Tahoe to `26.7.2`, macOS Sequoia to `15.8.2`, macOS Golden Gate to `27.2`
- Update visionOS to `27.2`

## Timeline

## From the sources

An out-of-bounds read was addressed with improved bounds checking. This issue is fixed in iOS 26.7.2 and iPadOS 26.7.2, iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2, macOS Golden Gate 27.2, macOS Sequoia 15.8.2, macOS Tahoe 26.7.2, visionOS 27.2. Processing a maliciously crafted image may result in disclosure of process memory.
