# Apple Safari and OS: crafted image causes memory corruption

An out-of-bounds write in Apple's image handling lets a maliciously crafted image corrupt memory. The sources do not say whether this leads to code execution.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the Safari and OS version in Settings > General > About on iOS, iPadOS, macOS and visionOS devices
- Compare against the fixed versions listed in the advisory, `Safari 27.2`, `iOS 26.7.2`, `iPadOS 26.7.2`, `iOS 27.2`, `iPadOS 27.2`, `macOS Golden Gate 27.2`, `visionOS 27.2`

## Fix

- Update Safari to `27.2` or later
- Update iOS and iPadOS to `26.7.2` or `27.2`
- Update macOS Golden Gate and visionOS to `27.2`

## Timeline

- 2026-10-26T21:20:29+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-112621

## From the sources

An out-of-bounds write issue was addressed with improved bounds checking. This issue is fixed in Safari 27.2, iOS 26.7.2 and iPadOS 26.7.2, iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2, macOS Golden Gate 27.2, visionOS 27.2. Processing a maliciously crafted image may result in memory corruption.
