# Apple iOS and iPadOS: path validation flaw lets trusted-paired attacker read and write files

Apple fixed a path handling flaw in iOS and iPadOS that lets an attacker with physical access to a trust-paired device read and write arbitrary files. The sources do not describe the affected component or the exact attack steps.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the iOS or iPadOS version under Settings > General > About; the sources do not name a specific check beyond the version.

## Fix

- Update iOS and iPadOS to `26.7.2` or `27.2` or later, per the sources.

## Timeline

- 2026-10-26T21:20:28+00:00 nvd https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-112612

## From the sources

A path handling issue was addressed with improved validation. This issue is fixed in iOS 26.7.2 and iPadOS 26.7.2, iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2. An attacker with physical access to a trust-paired device may be able to read and write arbitrary files.
