# Apple macOS: out-of-bounds write lets an app corrupt kernel memory

An out-of-bounds write flaw in macOS lets a local app crash the system or write kernel memory. Apple fixed it with improved bounds checking in macOS Sequoia 15.8.2 and macOS Tahoe 26.7.2.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Run `sw_vers -productVersion` on each Mac and compare against `15.8.2` (Sequoia) or `26.7.2` (Tahoe)
- unknown for other checks; the sources do not say

## Fix

- Update macOS Sequoia to `15.8.2` or later
- Update macOS Tahoe to `26.7.2` or later

## Timeline

## From the sources

An out-of-bounds write issue was addressed with improved bounds checking. This issue is fixed in macOS Sequoia 15.8.2, macOS Tahoe 26.7.2. An app may be able to cause unexpected system termination or write kernel memory.
