# macOS: crafted file can bypass Gatekeeper checks on upgraded releases

A logic flaw in macOS lets a maliciously crafted file bypass Gatekeeper's security checks. Apple fixed it in macOS Golden Gate 27.2, Sequoia 15.8.2 and Tahoe 26.7.2, and the sources do not say what an attacker gains beyond that bypass.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Run `sw_vers -productVersion` and compare against the fixed versions listed in the fix field.
- unknown: the sources do not say how to check for exploitation or for a crafted file.

## Fix

- Update macOS to `27.2` (Golden Gate), `15.8.2` (Sequoia) or `26.7.2` (Tahoe), whichever matches the installed major release.

## Timeline

## From the sources

A logic issue was addressed with improved checks. This issue is fixed in macOS Golden Gate 27.2, macOS Sequoia 15.8.2, macOS Tahoe 26.7.2. Processing a maliciously crafted file may bypass Gatekeeper checks.
