# Apple OS: out-of-bounds read can crash systems or leak kernel memory

An out-of-bounds read in Apple operating systems lets an attacker cause unexpected system termination or read kernel memory. The sources do not name the affected component or the attack vector.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed version under Settings > General > About (iOS, iPadOS, visionOS, watchOS, tvOS) or `sw_vers` on macOS
- Compare against the fixed versions listed in the description: iOS 26.7.2, iPadOS 26.7.2, iOS 27.2, iPadOS 27.2, macOS Tahoe 26.7.2, macOS Sequoia 15.8.2, macOS Golden Gate 27.2, tvOS 27.2, visionOS 27.2, watchOS 27.2

## Fix

- Update iOS and iPadOS to 26.7.2 or 27.2
- Update macOS Tahoe to 26.7.2, macOS Sequoia to 15.8.2, or macOS Golden Gate to 27.2
- Update tvOS, visionOS and watchOS to 27.2

## From the sources

An out-of-bounds read was addressed with improved bounds checking. This issue is fixed in iOS 26.7.2 and iPadOS 26.7.2, iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2, macOS Golden Gate 27.2, macOS Sequoia 15.8.2, macOS Tahoe 26.7.2, tvOS 27.2, visionOS 27.2, watchOS 27.2. An attacker may be able to cause unexpected system termination or read kernel memory.
