# Apple iOS and iPadOS: out-of-bounds write lets an app corrupt kernel memory

An out-of-bounds write flaw in iOS and iPadOS lets a malicious app crash the system or write to kernel memory. Apple fixed it with improved bounds checking in iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the device version under Settings > General > About, or run `sw_vers` on a Mac-attached workflow where applicable
- Confirm whether the installed build is earlier than `27.2`

## Fix

- Update iOS to `27.2` or later
- Update iPadOS to `27.2` or later

## From the sources

An out-of-bounds write issue was addressed with improved bounds checking. This issue is fixed in iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2. An app may be able to cause unexpected system termination or write kernel memory.
