# Apple: out-of-bounds read lets a crafted file crash apps

An out-of-bounds read in an Apple component lets a maliciously crafted file crash the app that processes it. The sources describe only unexpected app termination, not code execution or data disclosure.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the OS version on Apple devices: iOS or iPadOS below `26.7.2` or `27.2`, macOS below `26.7.2`, `15.8.2` or Golden Gate `27.2`, tvOS or visionOS below `27.2`.

## Fix

- Update iOS and iPadOS to `26.7.2` or `27.2`.
- Update macOS Tahoe to `26.7.2`, macOS Sequoia to `15.8.2`, or macOS Golden Gate to `27.2`.
- Update tvOS and visionOS to `27.2`.

## Timeline

## From the sources

An out-of-bounds read was addressed with improved bounds checking. This issue is fixed in iOS 26.7.2 and iPadOS 26.7.2, iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2, macOS Golden Gate 27.2, macOS Sequoia 15.8.2, macOS Tahoe 26.7.2, tvOS 27.2, visionOS 27.2. Processing a maliciously crafted file may lead to unexpected app termination.
