# Apple iOS and macOS: crafted image can corrupt process memory

A buffer overflow in Apple's image handling lets a maliciously crafted image corrupt process memory. The sources do not say whether this leads to code execution.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed version under Settings > General > About (iOS and iPadOS) or Apple menu > About This Mac (macOS, visionOS)
- Compare against the fixed versions listed in the Fix section

## Fix

- Update iOS and iPadOS to `26.7.2` or `27.2`
- Update macOS Tahoe to `26.7.2` or macOS Golden Gate to `27.2`
- Update visionOS to `27.2`

## Timeline

## From the sources

A buffer overflow issue was addressed with improved memory handling. This issue is fixed in iOS 26.7.2 and iPadOS 26.7.2, iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2, macOS Golden Gate 27.2, macOS Tahoe 26.7.2, visionOS 27.2. Processing a maliciously crafted image may corrupt process memory.
