# Apple macOS: out-of-bounds memory write lets a network attacker corrupt process memory

An out-of-bounds write in macOS was fixed with better bounds checking. An attacker on the local network may be able to corrupt process memory, which can lead to code execution, though the sources do not say that outright.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Run `sw_vers -productVersion` on each Mac and compare against the fixed builds listed in Fix.
- Check System Settings > General > Software Update for pending macOS updates.

## Fix

- Update macOS to `27.2` (Golden Gate), `15.8.2` (Sequoia), or `26.7.2` (Tahoe) or later.

## Timeline

## From the sources

An out-of-bounds write issue was addressed with improved bounds checking. This issue is fixed in macOS Golden Gate 27.2, macOS Sequoia 15.8.2, macOS Tahoe 26.7.2. An attacker on the local network may be able to corrupt process memory.
