# Apple OS: out-of-bounds read lets an app crash the system

An out-of-bounds memory read in Apple's operating systems can be triggered by an app, causing unexpected system termination. The sources describe a denial-of-service impact only, with no code execution or data access stated.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the device OS version in Settings > General > About (or `sw_vers -productVersion` on macOS) and compare it with the fixed versions.

## Fix

- Update iOS and iPadOS to `26.7.2` or `27.2`, macOS Tahoe to `26.7.2`, macOS Sequoia to `15.8.2`, macOS Golden Gate to `27.2`, and tvOS, visionOS and watchOS to `27.2`.

## From the sources

An out-of-bounds read was addressed with improved bounds checking. This issue is fixed in iOS 26.7.2 and iPadOS 26.7.2, iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2, macOS Golden Gate 27.2, macOS Sequoia 15.8.2, macOS Tahoe 26.7.2, tvOS 27.2, visionOS 27.2, watchOS 27.2.
