# Apple: out-of-bounds read in kernel input validation lets an app crash the system

An out-of-bounds read in Apple's operating systems lets an app crash the device or read kernel memory. Apple fixed it with improved input validation in the listed iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, visionOS and watchOS releases.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the current version under Settings > General > About (iOS, iPadOS, visionOS, watchOS, tvOS) or Apple menu > About This Mac (macOS).
- Compare the build against the fixed releases: `26.7.2` (iOS, iPadOS, macOS Tahoe), `27.2` (iOS, iPadOS, tvOS, visionOS, watchOS, macOS Golden Gate), `15.8.2` (macOS Sequoia).

## Fix

- Update iOS and iPadOS to `26.7.2` or `27.2`.
- Update macOS Tahoe to `26.7.2`, macOS Sequoia to `15.8.2`, and macOS Golden Gate to `27.2`.
- Update tvOS, visionOS and watchOS to `27.2`.

This issue is fixed in iOS 26.7.2 and iPadOS 26.7.2, iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2, macOS Golden Gate 27.2, macOS Sequoia 15.8.2, macOS Tahoe 26.7.2, tvOS 27.2, visionOS 27.2, watchOS 27.2.
