# Apple: out-of-bounds write in file parsing enables heap corruption

An out-of-bounds write in an Apple operating system component lets a maliciously crafted file corrupt heap memory. The sources do not say which component or what code execution an attacker could reach.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the device OS version in Settings > General > About (iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, visionOS)
- Compare against the fixed versions listed in the sources: iOS 26.7.2, iPadOS 26.7.2, macOS Tahoe 26.7.2, macOS Sequoia 15.8.2, iOS 27.2, macOS Golden Gate 27.2, tvOS 27.2, visionOS 27.2

## Fix

- Update iOS and iPadOS to 26.7.2 or 27.2
- Update macOS Tahoe to 26.7.2, macOS Sequoia to 15.8.2, or macOS Golden Gate to 27.2
- Update tvOS and visionOS to 27.2

## Timeline

## From the sources

An out-of-bounds write issue was addressed with improved input validation. This issue is fixed in iOS 26.7.2 and iPadOS 26.7.2, iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2, macOS Golden Gate 27.2, macOS Sequoia 15.8.2, macOS Tahoe 26.7.2, tvOS 27.2, visionOS 27.2. Processing a maliciously crafted file may lead to heap corruption.
