# Apple: out-of-bounds write in 3D model handling enables memory corruption

A bounds-checking flaw lets a maliciously crafted 3D model corrupt memory when processed on Apple devices. The sources do not say whether this allows code execution, but memory corruption is typically exploitable by an attacker.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed OS version under Settings > General > About (iOS/iPadOS) or `sw_vers` on macOS
- Compare against the fixed versions: iOS and iPadOS `26.7.2` or `27.2`, macOS Tahoe `26.7.2`, macOS Sequoia `15.8.2`, macOS Golden Gate `27.2`, visionOS `27.2`

## Fix

- Update iOS and iPadOS to `26.7.2` or `27.2`
- Update macOS Tahoe to `26.7.2`, macOS Sequoia to `15.8.2`, or macOS Golden Gate to `27.2`
- Update visionOS to `27.2`

## Timeline

## From the sources

An out-of-bounds write issue was addressed with improved bounds checking. This issue is fixed in iOS 26.7.2 and iPadOS 26.7.2, iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2, macOS Golden Gate 27.2, macOS Sequoia 15.8.2, macOS Tahoe 26.7.2, visionOS 27.2. Processing a maliciously crafted 3D model may lead to memory corruption.
