# Apple iOS and macOS: out-of-bounds read lets a crafted file crash or leak memory

An out-of-bounds read in Apple's operating systems can be triggered by processing a maliciously crafted file. The result is a denial of service or disclosure of memory contents.

_Summary, check and fix written by a model from the sources; labelled as such._

## How to check

- Check the installed version under Settings > General > About (iOS, iPadOS, visionOS) or `sw_vers` on macOS
- Compare against the fixed builds listed in the advisory: iOS 26.7.2, iPadOS 26.7.2, iOS 27.2, iPadOS 27.2, macOS Tahoe 26.7.2, macOS Sequoia 15.8.2, macOS Golden Gate 27.2, visionOS 27.2

## Fix

- Update iOS and iPadOS to 26.7.2 or 27.2
- Update macOS Tahoe to 26.7.2, macOS Sequoia to 15.8.2, or macOS Golden Gate to 27.2
- Update visionOS to 27.2

## Timeline

## From the sources

An out-of-bounds read was addressed with improved bounds checking. This issue is fixed in iOS 26.7.2 and iPadOS 26.7.2, iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2, macOS Golden Gate 27.2, macOS Sequoia 15.8.2, macOS Tahoe 26.7.2, visionOS 27.2. Processing a maliciously crafted file may lead to a denial-of-service or potentially disclose memory contents.
